Before your ear-care appointment

A few simple questions can make the next step feel clearer. Here is what to ask before arranging ear care.

Preparing for a visit · 3 November 2026

01

Ask what the appointment includes

Check whether the visit begins with an examination, what the fee covers and what happens if treatment is unsuitable. Mention any access or communication needs when speaking to the clinic, through an appropriate private channel.

02

Check before using drops

Ask a clinician or pharmacist whether drops are suitable and follow their individual advice. Do not use ear drops if you have a perforated eardrum. There is no universal preparation plan on this demo.

03

Leave the cotton buds out

Do not put fingers or objects such as cotton buds into your ears to remove wax. If your hearing changes suddenly or worsens over a few days or weeks, seek prompt clinical advice rather than waiting for a routine wax appointment.

Use trusted clinical guidance.
